The problem is that although there is a tremendous wealth of information concerning the six pack as well as a number of different techniques, regimens, and theories which are available to purportedly allow anyone to develop a set of well defined abdominal muscles people have yet to stop making common mistakes in their quest for six pack abs.

Doing endless sets of crunches in hope of toning the midsection.

Believe it or not, you can attain a six pack stomach without a single crunch. Many people believe that repetitive sets of abdominal crunches will send them well on their way to a six pack. This is a widely held misconception that is wrong for many reasons, but the two main ones are that it will burn the fat around the abdomen, and it will build the abdominal muscles. The fact is that a more efficient way of burning abdominal fat is through high intensity interval cardio and multiple joint weight lifting like squats and deadlifts. Secondly, crunches are not the most effective way to build abdominal strength, because hip flexors do most of the work when crunches are being performed.

In light of the common misconceptions concerning the elusive six pack , it is no wonder it remains elusive and seemingly unattainable for many of us. If you simply focus on what works and discard what doesn’t, you should be one step closer on your journey towards a stomach to be proud of.
