Toning Abs The Right Way

By Ryan Allen • Sep 6th, 2008 • Category: Features

Many people have the misconception that all it takes when toning abs is crunches, sit-ups and other ab exercises. The problem is that if you continue to eat lots of junk food, it doesn’t matter how many crunches you do because you’ll never get a visible six pack.

The reason is that crunches and other ab exercises don’t “burn off” the calories you’ve taken in during the day. You can’t eat badly all day and then work it off by doing sit-ups, it just doesn’t work. The only way to get a visible six pack is through toning your abs as well as burning fat so they can show through. It is much more important to lose weight than it is to build your abs if you want a six pack. Remember you already have a six pack. Everyone does. It just isn’t showing through yet.

That doesn’t mean that you should only burn calories and not do muscle building exercises though, you need a mixture of both. If you throw in healthy eating and a reduced calorie intake you have the perfect recipe for getting the toned ab muscles you’ve always wanted.

When toning your abs, it is also important to remember (like most things in life) that quality beats quantity all the time. If you aren’t doing your sit-ups or crunches correctly, or if you aren’t putting real effort into them, then doing hundreds or even thousands a day isn’t going to do much good. Don’t waste your time. Instead concentrate on doing a smaller amount of good crunches rather than a large amount of poor ones.

In conclusion, getting toned abs is not about doing as many sit-ups as possible, but instead about an overall healthier lifestyle. If this sounds like too much effort, then just think of the end result! Not only will you have the perfect six pack to show off, but you’ll also be much healthier general.
